Philips’ Product of the Year 2016 Makes Air the New Oil in Cooking

Company Announcement - South Africans voted the Philips Avance Airfryer as Product of the Year 2016 in the Small Appliance category for the second year running. South Africa’s finest gathered at the Inanda Polo Club in Sandton, Johannesburg on 24 February 2016 for the awards ceremony to find out which products the public believe are the best in class. The winners list is based on months of intensive research involving the surveying of over 5,000 South African households nationwide. There are no experts or lab coats involved - products are voted in entirely by a national representative sample of South African consumers.
The Philips Avance Airfryer was the uncontested star of the night. With five million Philips Airfryer appliances already sold globally, the product was a natural choice. City Press reported that DStv Edge presenter Danine Naidoo was one of the guests that favoured the Philips Avance Airfryer, predicting that it will win again this year. “Last year there was this fascination with the product and I suppose it will also win this year. It’s always nice having the illusion of having something fried and still getting to enjoy fried food without the calories that come with it,” Naidoo reported said.
“We are humbled by the tremendous response we’re received to the innovation that went into the Philips Avance Airfryer and we are thankful for each and every voter that believes as strongly in our product as we do,” says Lucy Jones, Marketing Head for Philips Personal Health in Africa.
“As a global leader in innovation around healthy food preparation, we have developed a range of pioneering and easy-to-use kitchen appliances that can help people prepare healthier homemade good food, conveniently without compromising on taste,” Jones explained.
It allows you to fry, grill, bake, roast and cook a wide variety of foods, using little or no oil. By combing rapid and precisely circulating hot air with an optimal temperature profile and unique ‘starfish’ design, the Philips Avance Airfryer removes up to 80% of the oil that you would have otherwise have consumed."The purpose of the awards is to guide consumers to the best products in their market and reward manufacturers for quality and innovation," says Preetesh Sewraj, CEO and Chief Innovation Analyst for Product of the Year South Africa.
“We receive the trust South Africans have placed in us with grace and accept the challenge to continually innovate to make lives easier and healthier, by building on the success of the Philips Avance Airfryer,” Jones concludes.
