PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold and base-metals explorer Ord River Resources has launched ecological studies at its Suplejack gold project, in the Northern Territory, as part of its three-year mine development plan at the Tregony deposit.

The junior said on Monday that the studies would form a key part of the environmental-impact assessment required for mining approvals.

The baseline ecological surveys would focus on the actual proposed development and disturbance site, but would also inform in other areas. The main components of the study included an initial desktop assessment, flora and fauna surveys and vegetation mapping.

A hydro-geological desktop study would also be undertaken.

Ord River was hoping to start construction of the Suplejack mine by 2016, with the project currently estimated to host some 101 300 oz of gold.
