Recent economic and geopolitical shocks have highlighted the vulnerabilities of supply chains, but South African minerals processing equipment manufacturer MechProTech says it has leaned strongly on its relationships with global suppliers to strategise around these crises.

The Gauteng-based original-equipment manufacturer imports certain components from international brands for its designs.

“We have been able to keep up the supply for our clients’ requirements through our relationships with suppliers,” MechProTech’s Benedict Mogiba tells Engineering News & Mining Weekly.

MechProTech also managed to keep “well afloat” during the Covid-19 pandemic, despite some projects being placed on hold or cancelled. “Our excellent customer base and long-term project pipeline has enabled us to continue operations as best possible.”

Mogiba says the company, which specialises in Comminution, Hydrometallurgy, Classification, Mechanical Equipment and Pilot and Modular Plants, is looking forward to taking advantage of the resurgence currently seen in the minerals sector,

Metals and mined commodities rebounded strongly last year, and global events have led to an extended rally in commodities.

Mogiba notes that the return of the Electra Mining Africa this year also highlights the industry’s resolve to continue growing. “The return of the exhibition makes an important statement to the mineral processing industry; a statement that speaks to the attitude of all parties – the project houses, the manufacturers, and the mines – we have weathered the storm and we are determined more than ever to thrive.”

Outside South Africa, the Benoni-based company supplies mineral processing equipment to many African countries and has recently worked on projects in the SADC region and is now venturing further north into Sub-Saharan Africa and projects on other continents.

MechProTech has experienced continued growth over the years and has committed to increasing the capacity of its facilities to meet ever-growing demand. In conjunction, the firm’s workforce continues to expand, with a focus on employing qualified professionals.

“We strive to enrich the skills of team members already in our fold by allowing opportunities for individuals to further their studies,” Mogiba notes.

Research and development (R&D) is the cornerstone of MechProTech’s philosophy, in line with its focus on tailor-making solutions for each individual client’s needs. “Having a dedicated mindset to R&D ensures that our flexibility outweighs any mineral processing problem,” he says.

Active R&D not only improves the group’s existing equipment offering, but also expands its product range. Continuous product development has seen the company increase its product range and service offering

At Electra Mining Africa, MechProTech will showcase some of its latest products at its stand.
