Hermes Datacomms, a key specialist providing managed networks for the Upstream Oil & Gas and Mining sectors worldwide, has secured a 3 year contract from Matrovosa mine (Polyus Gold holding) to provide a satellite communications network in the Magadan region of Far East Russia.

Polyus Gold, the largest gold producer in Russia and one of the top 5 gold miners globally, chose Hermes Datacomms Russian subsidiary to provide two corporate channels from the Magadan region to Moscow on two 50 megabit links via satellite.

Nikolay Kiselev, Business Development Manager for Russia, explains: “This is a pioneering project for Russia and we are delighted to have been awarded this contract. The main challenge posed was the short lead time from contract award to installation. In this short period, the full equipment spread was installed, commissioned and tested. This included two 5m dishes connecting from two sites to main teleport and associated fibre backhaul to Polyus’ offices in Moscow. The success of this huge installation within this time constraint is down to the experience, flexibility and professionalism of the team at Hermes Datacomms”.

Following successful completion of the install, Hermes Datacomms now manages, real-time monitors and provides 24/7 technical support to this end to end project.

Hermes Datacomms specialises in providing managed networks for the oil, gas and mining sectors worldwide including remote and challenging locations including Algeria, Angola, Sub-Saharan Africa, Malaysia, Australia, America, Kazakhstan, Libya, the Middle East, Iraq, Russia and Turkmenistan.
