Project Description
Mabesekwa is envisaged as a coal-based integrated mine-mouth power plant with the potential to incorporate a solar component.

It currently comprises a 303-million-tonne South African Code for the Reporting of Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves-compliant coal resource, with water- and land-use permits and environmental certification in place.

Scoping and prefeasibility studies on the coal mine envision a power plant with a maximum capacity of 600 MW (4 × 150 MW) based on a coal delivery rate of 3.2-million tonnes a year and a life-of-mine of more than 30 years.
