Aim-listed Lexington Gold has successfully completed percussion drilling at the Bothaville project, in South Africa’s Witwatersrand Gold Basin.

The drilling, which started early in December last year, is crucial for cost-effective penetration of the overlying Karoo sediments.

Lexington is currently sampling the upper section of the Karoo sediments to test for the presence of heavy minerals, which have previously been reported in this area.

The company has now started with diamond drilling below the Karoo sediments on two of four planned mother holes, which will be followed by wedging.

Lexington chairperson Ed Nealon explains that the main exploration targets are gold-bearing conglomerates of the Kimberley Formation, including A-Reef, which subcrops beneath the Karoo cover starting at a depth of 250 m.

He is confident that the drilling will validate and expand the known gold mineralisation at Bothaville.

The diamond drilling programme should be complete by the end of February.

Lexington has interests in four gold projects, comprising 1 675 acres in North and South Carolina, in the US, and five gold projects covering just under 90 000 ha in South Africa.
