Company Announcement  - Nacala, Mozambique was not just another ordinary day at a project site, the Kentz Nacala team reached an important milestone as a 250 ton mechanical assembly was installed in one lift.  The wagon tippler installation is reportedly the heaviest lift executed on all projects completed in Mozambique to date. The wagon tippler is machine designed and supplied by ThyssenKrupp Germany  to off-load double train wagons carrying 130 tons of coal, in addition to off-loading for Vale, a Brazilian resource company (This installation represents a major milestone for Kentz Moatize Expansion: Nacala Port project, as well as the entire Vale organisation in Mozambique. Capable of handling 18 million tons of coal per annum, the wagon tippler is singularly the most important mechanical installation for the company. This device will extract 30 million tons of coal a year from the Moatize mine 925 km inland, representing a significant achievement.

To place the critical machinery, the wagon tippler installation required the design to include the fabrications of an erection trestle that would also act as the lift spreader beam. This design allowed the 750 ton-Liebherr crane to install the wagon tippler utilising the super-lift that mobilised from Cape Town, South Africa. With an array of 160 ton shackles, heat-treated hanger rods and 165 ton nylon slings, this engineered rigging equipment) ensured that the entire operation was within 82% of the crane load capacity, and 87% of the rigging gear's working load. This incredible feat was as a result of team effort that took twelve months to plan. It was assembled by Kentz engineer Ian Reitlander, supervised by Kentz rigging superintendent Raymond Jacobs and Arno Cilliers of Kentz Moatize, brought his extensive design  of fabrication of rigging equipment  to the 47 trucks of components,  representing the  750 ton crane.

Steven Gouws, Project manager of Metals and Mining said, "We consider this a team effort planned and executed to perfection by CLN, Vale, and Kentz.  We thank you for your support." To witness the historical event were regional and local authorities, including Mayor Daniel Chapo of the district Nacala-a-Velha, Mozambican dignitaries, Vale and Kentz executives and senior management, the media and a large group of contractors working in Nacala.
“This impressive wagon tippler lift is an important accomplishment for the project and for the Kentz Group as it nears the end of its project completion in 2015,” concluded Colin Crowley, Regional Development Director - African Region, Country Director – Mozambique.
