Keaton’s Vanggatfontein delivers 540 127 t of coal to Eskom in Q3
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Despite power outages, JSE-listed Keaton Energy’s Vanggatfontein colliery delivered 540 127 t of washed 2- and 4-seam thermal coal to State-owned Eskom in the quarter ended December 31.
This brought the colliery’s total coal deliveries to Eskom for the first nine months of the 2015 financial year to 1.74-million tons – a 4.4% year-on-year increase.
Sales of 5-seam metallurgical coal for the third quarter were 30 897 t – up 30.1% year-on-year – and 95 903 t for the nine months – up 21.6% year-on-year.
CEO Mandi Glad commented in a statement to shareholders on Thursday that 2015 would be a year of sustained performance at Vanggatfontein, with the company expecting consistent production of coal and cash generation from this long-life colliery.
VAALKRANTZ
Glad further commented that “after a lot of hard work” at the company’s Vaalkrantz colliery, Keaton was starting to see the benefits of improved work practices and the introduction and first contracted sales of the new 32% ash product, which had been met with considerable market support.
Vaalkrantz sold 79 662 t of anthracite to local and export customers during the December quarter, an increase of 29.5% over the corresponding period. Sales for the first nine months of the year were 271 560 t, an increase of 25.9% year-on-year.
