Nonprofit professional membership association Project Management Institute (PMI) offers Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, which com- prises a rigorous process that demonstrates the achievement, knowledge and skills of a project manager in the project management environment.

According to PMI, industries are realising the importance of project management and the PMP certificate, which validates the recipient’s competence.

PMP certification holders can work in virtually any industry, with any methodology and in any location, unlike other certificates that focus on a particular geographical area.

Further, according to the Project Management Salary Survey – Eighth Edition, the PMP certification also increases earning potential, as certificate holders can earn 17% more than their noncertified peers.

Benefits associated with becoming PMP-certified include proof of professional achievement clients’ confidence in the project manager and in their organisa- tion, opportunity for advance-ment, productivity in the organ- isation and increased market-ability.

PMI is a recognised organisa-tion in terms of promoting project management best practices worldwide and strives to main-tain endorsement standards and ethics in the field of project management.

It offers publications, training, seminars and certification such as the Certified Associate in Project Management – a course that prepares candidates to write their certification exam.

The PMP certification training comprises 13 chapters, including Chapter 1 – Project Management Body of Knowledge Introduction; Chapter 2 – Organisational Influences and Project Life Cycle; Chapter 3 – Project Management Process; Chapter 4 – Integration Management Knowledge Area and Process; and Chapter 5 – Scope Management Knowledge Area and Process.

PMP training is scheduled to run from March 14 to 18 in Johannesburg and from April 18 to 22 in Port Alfred, Eastern Cape.
