Telecoms company iBurst is proud to announce the launch of its ICT Skills Learnership Programme today. The programme will see the company taking on 50 unemployed students approved by the MICTSeta, from the townships of Soweto and Eldorado Park to receive practical training at iBurst.
IBurst CEO Thami Mtshali says he is very excited about the company’s latest initiative because it provides them with the opportunity to contribute the country’s larger skills development t programme. He says learnerships help to address the gaps between education and training and the needs of the labour market, and that through this programme the youth from some of the country’s most disadvantaged areas will now have the opportunity to receive structured work experienced from a well established and recognized company. “We are endeavouring not only to provide these young students with access to training, but we also hope to eventually absorb the majority of them as permanent employees of iBurst, WBS and Broadlink,” said Mtshali.
The Learnership will run for 12 months, with the first 4 months consisting of Theoretical Training (off site) while the remainder of the period will be spent at iBurst. The aim is to allocate these students to different departments (HR, Networks, Logistics etc.) during their practical training period to ensure that they are skilled and competent to be retained and/or go out and start their own ventures. iBurst has partnered with an Accredited Training Provider, Qhakaza Management Services and will be utilizing their Training Facility located in SOWETO, Tladi, for the theoretical part of the training. Qhakaza initiated this programme by running an induction of all students since Wednesday in preparation for the start of their learnerships at iBurst today. The company would like to wish the students the best of luck on the important and exciting journey that they are pursuing!
