Company Announcement - The handy STIHL MSA 160 T cordless special-purpose saw sets new standards in operator convenience and ease of use for professional tree surgery. At less than 1.9 kg (without battery and cutting attachment) this top-handle saw is a true lightweight for professional tree maintenance. It is also perfectly balanced and thus very ergonomic in operation. Whether climbing the tree or working from a cherry picker, the machine fires up in seconds, accelerates promptly and is immediately ready for precise, powerful cutting. Because of its low noise level there is no need to wear ear protection when working which makes it easier to communicate with colleagues on the ground and thus contributes to a safe and pleasant work situation.

The STIHL MSA 160 T delivers high cutting quality and performance. This is achieved by the brushless, electronically controlled electric motor in combination with the proven ¼" Picco Micro 3 saw chain specially developed by STIHL for cordless chain saws. The chain is low-vibration and low-kickback and when used with the ultra-slim STIHL Rollomatic E Mini guide bar, they make a great team. STIHL develops and produces the cutting attachments for its chain saws in-house, which ensures that the chainsaw, guide bar and chain work together optimally.

No unnecessary weight
The weight of the recommended STIHL AP 115 lithium ion battery has been coordinated perfectly with the requirement for a lightweight, well balanced chain saw for tree servicing. The battery weighs only 1.2 kg and has sufficient capacity for 23 minutes’ running time. Complete with battery and standard cutting attachment (30 cm) the saw weighs only 3.5 kg. As a practical feature, all the batteries in STIHL’s modular system are compatible with the MSA 160T.

No unnecessary noise
The low-noise running of the MSA 160 T is a major advantage. It has a sound pressure level of 81 dB(A), so the operator can confidently leave their ear protection on the ground. That makes this saw exactly the right choice for tree servicing in noise-sensitive places like parks and cemeteries, hospital and school grounds and residential areas. For the arborist, working without ear protection means a distinctive gain in terms of convenience and safety, as he is less cut off from his surroundings and can move about the branches more freely. What’s more, working comfort is significantly improved, especially in summer when ear protection can be hot and uncomfortable.

Perfection, down to the details
The MSA 160 T has a number of equipment details that make this saw the ideal tool for professional tree surgeons. The machine starts easily at the push of a button and delivers excellent start-of-cut performance. Both chain saw and battery are protected from moisture, so there’s no reason not to use them in wet conditions. And the side chain tensioner, the STIHL QuickStop Super additional chain braking system which stops the chain in seconds when the user lets go of the throttle trigger, the see-through lubricant tank with the toolless filler cap and the swing-out loop for attaching a snap link all help to make work easier while at the same time enhancing user safety.

The STIHL MSA 160 T is now available from STIHL’s nationwide network of specialist dealers, ensuring expert advice, superior after sales service and guaranteed spares availability.
