An employee of Harmony Gold Mining's Doornkop mine has died of his injuries following an underground drilling-related incident on September 10.

The authorities have been notified and Harmony is working with them to ensure that a full on-site investigation is conducted.

Management has temporarily suspended all operations and declared a safety shift.

Harmony CEO Peter Steenkamp extended his heartfelt condolences, and those of the company, to the family, colleagues and friends of the deceased.

“Safety is at the forefront of everything we do and stand for at Harmony. We are devastated by the tragic incident and our management team is working closely with the family of the deceased to provide support and assistance during this difficult time,” he said.
