PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Diversified miner Glencore on Wednesday revealed that it had contributed A$19.9-billion to the Australian economy in 2022.

The company, which operates 24 mines across Australia as well as a number of metals processing facilities, provided work for 18 190 employees and contractors in Australia, according to its latest economic contributions report.

The report found that Glencore had spent A$10.4-billion on goods and services in Australia, supporting 7 370 Australia-based businesses, paying A$2.1-billion in wages and salaries and A$7.5-billion in taxes, royalties and rates to both state and federal governments.

“We’re proud of our people who make a huge contribution to our success and our ability to make a positive difference in regional Australia and across the country,” said Glencore Australia head of corporate affairs Cassandra McCarthy.

“When mining does well, Australians do well and our economy does well. We should never take that for granted.”
