Project Description
Black Mountain Mining proposes to build a new zinc smelter and associated infrastructure to produce 300 000 t/y of special high-grade zinc metal by processing 680 000 t/y of zinc concentrate.
A by-product of 450 000 t/y of pure sulphuric acid will be produced for export and local consumption.

The Northern Cape Department of Mineral Resources and Energy granted Black Mountain Mining a positive environmental authorisation on March 9, 2022.
Interested and affected parties were advised of their right to lodge an appeal with the Directorate of Appeals and Legal Review, in Pretoria, within 20 days of the positive environmental authorisation.
