Biometric multinational HID Global has made several improvements to its compact Lumidigm M-Series fingerprint solutions and they can now be used in many different and difficult operating conditions for identity verification applications, says HID Global solutions business development VP Greg Sarrail.

Easy-to-use and reliable multispectral imaging adds heightened liveness detection to the fingerprint readers, which enables original-equipment manufacturers and information technology (IT) security integrators to deliver cost-effective authentication solutions for time and attendance, physical access control, banking and healthcare.

A new developer kit provides tools to integrate these devices into existing M-Series applications, as well as to create new designs and applications, he highlights.

The firm also launched an end-to-end identity access management solution, which enables government agencies and other organisations requiring high security to use one credential for accessing doors, IT systems, networks and data.

The M-Series captures fingerprint data from the skin’s surface and subsurface for reliable matching in diverse operating conditions and has a durable, hard glass-surface that helps to reduce field repairs. The solutions can also process biometric data on-device and use updated image-capture firmware to improve accuracy.

The aim is to allow for the delivery of authentication solutions that ensure that the identities of customers, staff and citizens are correctly and accurately verified, subsequently reducing the risk of identity fraud, Sarrail says.

The M-Series sensors allow for effective and cost-effective logical access control applications – from employee network access, retail point-of-sale transactions, securing confidential healthcare data to authenticating citizens for government benefits.

“The M‑Series solutions combine accuracy with a simple user experience and the liveness detection in different operating conditions prevents fraudulent use of fake or stolen biometric data, reducing threats from criminals trying to impersonate legitimate users,” concludes Sarrail.
