JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The body of an employee has been found underground at Harmony Gold’s Moab Khotsong mine, near Orkney, in North West province, Harmony stated on Wednesday.

The deceased employee was reported missing at the end of the day shift on Tuesday, following which an intensive search was undertaken to find the person, who has not been named by the Johannesburg- and New York-listed company, which reported the finding of the dead body in a stock exchange news service notice.

Harmony CEO Peter Steenkamp has committed Harmony’s full support and cooperation to the official investigation into the cause of death of the deceased employee.

“We are reinforcing across our operations the key elements of our safety journey of leadership, risk management and attainment of a proactive safety culture,” Steenkamp stated in a media release to Mining Weekly.
