Engen Zambia, the African energy company, helped make Greenpop’s Trees for Zambia campaign a success this year, with a fuel sponsorship of the three-week initiative that resulted in the planting of 3358 trees and sowing of thousands of seeds.

For the second year running, Cape Town-based Greenpop ‘invaded’ Livingstone, Zambia, engaging numerous volunteers, community members, school children, local businesses, tree growers, farmers and other organisations in its reforestation and eco-awareness initiative.

Greenpop director Lauren O’Donnell says the wide-ranging effort involved multiple locations and ranged from 7 to 28 July. It went beyond planting to also include workshops, alternative energy school projects and speaker events.

The Zambian Minister of Tourism and Arts, the Honourable Sylvia Masebo, joined in planting a Baobab tree for the father of the Rainbow Nation.

“Greenpop is wholly grateful to the international and local partners that supported Trees for Zambia 2013, and those that support the on-going project,” she says.

“Engen’s sponsorship helped drive this project to success, powering the van that carried our team to Zambia and to planting days at Livingstone schools. It made a massive difference, and we could not have done this without it!”

"The whole project was a real success. Having partners like Engen on board to assist Greenpop Zambia with driving positive change makes all the difference to achieving our goals for a more sustainable future,” added Misha Teasdale, Greenpop Director
