Company Announcement - A clearer understanding of the subsurface and of the factors controlling production for a specific play is an ongoing issue, particularly in fractured reservoirs. In North American shale plays, for example, production can vary across plays and even between wells drilled from the same pad.
Yet, frac design and analysis are currently applied in only a very small percentage of hydraulic fracturing projects, largely due to the length of time required to gather input data for fracture simulation models.

A new technology is available to the industry thanks to a joint software development agreement between CGG and Baker Hughes Incorporated. PowerLog® Frac offers a streamlined set of tools and workflows that allow engineers to rapidly analyze parameters such as water saturation, permeability, and porosity.  By eliminating manual calculations and spreadsheets, engineers can leverage petrophysical analysis to model multiple frac scenarios in hours instead of days. Achieving consensus quickly on an effective well completion program is critical particularly when multiple partners are involved in developing a field. Baker Hughes will use PowerLog Frac in its pressure pumping operations to generate scenarios immediately and directly drive its fracture simulation design software.

CGG and Baker Hughes are providing critical subsurface information required for a more strategic approach to shale development. This unique combination of expertise and technology will drive faster, better models for hydraulic fracturing projects.  Oil companies and service providers can now use PowerLog Frac to combine their knowledge and implement frac simulation as part of a standard completion process.  Increased collaboration enables faster decisions, essential for enhanced fracture design and improved well performance.

CGG and Baker Hughes will be hosting booth presentations to introduce PowerLog Frac. To learn more about the technology behind the latest CGG and BHI collaboration, visit CGG GeoSoftware booth #837 for demos and presentations throughout the ATCE, and enjoy Happy Hour on Monday and Tuesday.
