Deutsche Bank appoints Muneer Ismail as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Country Officer South Africa

Company Announcement - Deutsche Bank today announced the appointment of Muneer Ismail as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Country Officer , Deutsche Bank South Africa, succeeding Peter Wharton-Hood, who is transferring to London to become Deutsche Bank’s Head of Operations, Global Markets, Head of Client Lifecycle Management and Head of the Chief Operating Office for UK and Ireland.
Muneer Ismail’s appointment is effective May 1, 2016.

In addition to his role as CEO and CCO, Ismail will continue as Head of Global Markets in South Africa. He will join the Middle East and Africa (MEA) Executive Committee and regionally report to Jamal Al Kishi, CEO Middle East and Africa and will retain his functional reporting line to Max Koep, Head of Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa and Latin American Equities.
Ashok Aram, CEO EMEA remarked on the appointment, “The Bank’s Equities business in South Africa has experienced strong growth under Muneer’s leadership. He has a deep and detailed knowledge of the capital markets landscape across South Africa and the African continent which, in conjunction with the highly capable senior management team in South Africa, will position Deutsche Bank for growth in the context of our global Strategy 2020.”

Ismail joined Deutsche Bank in 2004 as a member of the South African Resources research team covering precious metals. In 2009 he became head of the South African Equity Sales team. Prior to Deutsche Bank, he worked as a Mining Engineer for Gold Fields and subsequently as a highly rated senior mining analyst with Cazenove & Co. Aram added, “We take this opportunity to thank Peter Wharton-Hood for his leadership over the past three years. Together with the team, Peter has been instrumental in re-positioning Deutsche Bank’s franchise in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.”
