China Steel commissions new 270-t twin-ladle furnace

China Steel Corporation, located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, has successfully commissioned the 270-t twin-ladle furnace No. 3 supplied by SMS Mevac, Germany, www.sms-mevac.com

SMS Mevac’s scope comprised the engineering, the supply of the twin-ladle, including the entire material handling system, supervision of installation and commissioning as well as training.

This twin-ladle furnace with an annual capacity of 1.94 million tons was installed in the No. 2 BOF steelmaking plant. A special design feature is the dog house of the twin-ladle furnace, which minimizes the noise and dust in the furnace area. The total capacity of BOF steelmaking plants Nos. 1 and 2 today amounts to some 10 million tons per year. CSC now operates six RH plants and two ladle furnaces for liquid steel treatment. All units were supplied and/or revamped by SMS Mevac.
