Dormer has re-launched their innovative “product selector” programme - a web-based application that provides guidance on the most effective machining solutions from the company’s ‘live’ database of more than 12,500 products.

This latest version has been completely re-engineered from top to bottom to maximise ease of use, speed and compatibility with modern PC’s and latest versions of Windows. The software provides users with personalised advice on the best tool for a range of machining areas including drilling, milling, threading and reaming. As such, it aims to simplify the sometimes complex procedure of tool section, hopefully saving time and money that may otherwise be lost on materials or tools damaged through incorrect usage. Ricky Payling, project leader, said: “This latest version of our product selector represents a significant step forward.

“For the first time it will be available to use online – at www.dormertools.com which will make it more accessible. The design and layout has been refreshed with minimal data input required. Most information can be selected either from drop-down lists or check boxes. This means the process is both quick and simple – even for first time users. “Another advantage of the “live”, online version format is that it is automatically updated whenever we launch a new product, meaning the information on there is always correct and up to date.” Additional technical data including cost and tool life comparison graphs for up to eight different products can be accessed at the touch of a button. The interactive product selector has been launched in the same year Dormer celebrates its centenary, during which time the company has been at the forefront of many key developments in the cutting tool industry.
