The Ba Kgafela Traditional Authority (BBKTA) under the leadership of Kgosi Nyalala Pilane will be  launching  Moruleng City, officially the first metropolis to be built in South Africa’s North West province post-apartheid.

The Kgosi’s vision of building a sound foundation for the Moruleng community, which comprises approximately 32 villages or 350 000 people, is finally being realised with the establishment of Moruleng City, which will be a self-sufficient hub that provides its citizens with sustainable business and employment opportunities, social and community infrastructure, and a fair standard of living upon completion. While the BBK community has already started to benefit from the ongoing implementation of projects in the tourism, agriculture, mining and manufacturing sectors, and from BBKTA having identified and prioritised numerous results-driven programmes, some of which are already under way, in areas such as health, education and skills development, the current priority is to establish the potential investment of the land and more detailed planning is required to give full effect to the BBKTA Master Plan. The past four years have seen a great advancement in the community’s infrastructural development, the first phase of which includes the completion of the construction of Moruleng Boulevard (R 34m) and Moruleng Mall, which opens its doors for trading on 24 October 2013  be

The second phase of Moruleng City’s development will comprise the construction of residential flats, community housing, and a public-private hospital as well as enhanced education facilities that will mark the completion of development. In accordance with BBKTA’s social mandate, Moruleng City will also retain its historical and cultural relevance through the construction of a museum and traditional courts. BBK are committed to ensuring that their shared cultural heritage, traditions and value systems are upheld for the benefit of current and future generations. “This development of Moruleng City speaks to the BBKTA’s Master Plan, made up of a group of key initiatives designed to uplift and empower the Bakgatla Ba Kgafela community. Aptly themed ‘My City My Home My Future’, our goal is to create a not only a community that is self-sufficient but also a legacy that will serve the community in the near future, and for generations to come,” says Kgosi Nyalala Pilane.
