As KwaZulu-Natal continues to count the cost of the floods that have ravaged the province, poor residents who have lost their homes and are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance are in a state of disbelief.

“Having witnessed the damage caused by the floods first hand and the destruction it has inflicted in people’s lives, we just couldn’t sit back and do nothing,” says Andile Ntloko, CDC Programme Director in KwaZulu-Natal.

The Coega Development Corporation situated in the Province of KwaZulu-Natal spared no time and expense in assisting, by providing necessities to those that have been affected by the devasting floods. Amply supported by their head office in Gqeberha, an overnight trip was made to provide a truck load of essential supplies to the most vulnerable within the district of eThekwini. In collaboration with the Department of Education – KwaZulu Natal, families and communities are set to receive hampers consisting of blankets, bottled water, rice, canned baked beans, and meat balls to mention but a few.

“Imbedded in our value system as a company is the importance of showing up for those in need and the spirit of strategic partnerships in working together. With the floods estimated to have affected over 13 000 000 households, we appreciate the little that we've done may be limited, however, in the eyes of someone in need, it certainly goes a long way,” concludes Ntloko.
