Name of the Project
Canadian Malartic extension project.

Location
Canadian Malartic is located 25 km west of Val-d’Or in Quebec, Canada.

Client
Canadian Malartic General Partnership, a 50:50 joint venture between Agnico Eagle Mines and Yamana Gold.

Project Description
The Canadian Malartic operation comprises an openpit gold mine and a processing plant.

The proposed project entails the expansion of the Canadian Malartic mine and the diversion of Highway 117, in Malartic, which will allow the mines footprint to double in size.

Diversion plans will include a temporary bridge over Highway 117 to minimise the impact of construction work on local traffic.

The highway diversion will enable the mine to access the Barnat zone, which has softer ore and could allow for higher throughputs. The 203-million tonnes, on a 100% basis, of reported reserves as at December 31, 2016, include the Barnat zone and could enable the mine to continue production for a further six years to 2027.

Jobs to Be Created
The expansion is expected to safeguard or consolidate an estimated 1 250 jobs.

Net Present Value/Internal Rate of Return
Not stated.

Value
$200-million. The diversion of Highway 717 will cost about $53-million.

Duration
Production activities at the project are currently forecast to begin in late 2019, subject to obtaining ancillary certificates of authorisation and the progress of the road diversion.

Latest Developments
On April 19, the Quebec government issued two decrees authorising the Canadian Malartic General Partnership to carry out the project.

The authorisation has been accompanied by nine new conditions, five of which relate to sound climate management.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
None stated.

On Budget and on Time?
Too early to state.
