Bullant ore to be processed at Norton Gold Fields plant
PERTH (miningweekly.com) - Junior Kalgoorlie Mining Company has signed an ore processing agreement with fellow-listed Norton Gold Fields to sell up to 280 000 t of ore from its Bullant gold mine, in Western Australia.
The agreement would allow for the processing of Bullant ore at Norton’s Paddington processing facility, where it would be blended with other feed sources.
Deliveries would start in April this year, and would continue until the end of 2014, with ore batches of up to 20 000 t/m delivered from the Bullant run-of-mine pad.
Kalgoorlie Mining Company said on Tuesday that a bulk sample per ore batch would be crushed and sampled at Paddington, then assayed to determine the grade and moisture content.
“With certainty achieved in the ore processing arrangement and with the completion of the mining plan, which is being finalised, Kalgoorlie Mining Company can now move confidently to the formal tender process for the underground mining contract and the restart of mining,” said MD James Croser.
Operations at Bullant were suspended in February last year after the mine missed production targets and reported high processing costs. A detailed operational and financial review of the project found that, at the time, the combined effect of missed production targets and high processing costs meant that the only sustainable outcome was an immediate decision to place the operation on active care and maintenance.
Since that time, the miner has looked at ways to restart operations at Bullant, and Croser said on Tuesday that the agreement with Norton represented a critical milestone towards achieving that goal.
