“El-Shammah, which is a three bedroom haven for abandoned and or unwanted babies, relies on donations and sponsorships, to be able to provide love, care and protection to babies,” says Nico de Lange, Becker Mining. “In tough economic times, it is even more critical that we find it in our hearts to support those in need.

South Africa is seeing a growing number of women in desperate situations – through poverty, lack of a support system and HIV/Aids -and are unable to care for their babies.

“It was humbling for our social responsibility team to visit the home and to make a contribution to this worthy cause. We encourage others to assist this home, however possible – cash donations, food hampers, nappies, medicines, cleaning materials, or linen.”

The El-Shammah place of safety can accommodate up to 18 babies - from newborn to a year old - at any one time. These vulnerable babies are gently cared for and nurtured by qualified and trained caregivers.
