The Northern Territory government has approved ASX-listed Avenira’s mine management plan (MMP) for the Wonarah phosphate project, clearing the way for mining to start.

The MMP authorisation approves the extraction of 40 000 t/y of ore and enables staged expansion of the direct shipping ore project.

The Wonorah mine will provide feedstock for the proposed LFP cathode production plant, which will be based in Darwin.

“Completing this project will see Darwin become a key supplier of critical materials to the global battery market,” said Avenira chairperson and CEO Brett Clark.

Northern Territory Mining and Industry Minister Nicole Manison said that the approval of the Wonarah mine was a “big win” for jobs in the Barkly.
