Ongoing drilling at Orion Minerals' Okiep copper project (OCP), in South Africa's Northern Cape province, continues to deliver the highly anticipated extensions of previously intersected wide, high-grade copper mineralisation, "confirming the substantial upside of this project", MD and CEO Errol Smart says.

The ASX- and JSE-listed company has reported the final assay results from the first drill hole completed to test down-dip continuity in a block of structurally uplifted high-grade copper mineralisation at Flat Mine South (FMS), which is part of the OCP.

The assay results received returned an intersection of 24.95 m at 4.14% copper within 59 m at 3.14% copper and confirm that high-grade copper mineralisation continues in an up-thrown and repeated fault block position, Orion reports.

"Importantly, the newly intersected mineralisation is at the foot of the proposed mine development planned for FMS, to extract the existing mineral resource,” Smart comments.

Orion says these latest results add further momentum to Orion’s development strategy for the OCP, building on the outstanding outcomes of a recently completed confirmation drilling programme, which confirmed the geology and endowment of the Flat Mines area, which includes FMS, Flat Mines East and Flat Mines North.
