AEG Inverter Cabins awarded IP45 Rating for its outstanding resistance to harsh environment

3W Power/AEG Power Solutions, a leading global manufacturer of power electronic systems and solutions for industrial power supplies and renewable energies, have been awarded an IP45 rating by the SABS (South African Bureau of Standards) for their inverter cabin, constituting AEG PS’ TKS-C ZA Container Solution.
The inverter cabins, made of galvanized steel with thermally insulated side panels to ensure operation in the hottest climes, were designed to function with harsh conditions in mind. The IP (Ingress Protection) rating is used to specify the environmental protection for enclosures. To receive an SABS IP45 rating, the inverter cabin underwent numerous solid object and water tests in accordance with SANS 60529: 2001 “Degree of protection provided by enclosures”.
When tested as per the relevant requirements as defined by the SABS, the inverter cabin showed no sign of entry by the solid object probe pushed against all openings of the cabin; with minimal water entering but not reaching the live parts housed within. With an IP45 rating, the first digit, 4, describes the level of protection against solid objects over 1 mm (tools, wires, and small wires) and the second digit, 5, the level of protection against low pressure jets of water from all directions.
“As a leading global provider of standards, this SABS testing of our inverter cabins guarantee that they offer protection for utility-scale solar inverters in rugged and harsh environments, which is ideal for Southern hemisphere countries and the African market”, says Trevor De Vries, Managing Director 3W Power South Africa.
AEG PS offers a completely integrated station, the TKS-C ZA container solution, which includes inverters, metering and monitoring components, and communications infrastructure. The container station comprises a pair of Protect PV.560, PV.690 or PV.880 utility-scale solar inverters.
