Local firm clinches Moz ultrafine coal processing plant contract
Environmental and process technology firm Enprotec is designing a turnkey 60 t/h ultrafine coal processing solution for Jindal Africa, the African subsidiary of India-based steelmaker Jindal Steel & Power, for the recovery of ultrafine coking coal destined for export.
The contract, which was awarded to Enprotec in August, is expected to be completed and implemented at the Chirodzi coal mine, in the Tete province of Mozambique, in the second quarter of 2014.
Jindal Africa’s Chirodzi opencast coal mine started producing metallurgical and thermal coal this year.
Enprotec sales and marketing head Jayson Jacobs says this is a significant project for the company, as it is its first project outside South Africa.
After finalising the design of the processing solution, Enprotec will undertake the fabrication and civils work at the mine site.
The ultrafine coal beneficiation plant will comprise a 60 t/h Enprotec dual-cell flotation plant.
The dual-cell flotation technology incorpo-rates unique energy transfer and optimal air and reagent addition in the cell to produce an extremely fine bubble that, in turn, enables the cell to separate the ultrafines stream much more efficiently than conventional cells.
The process plant will also consist of three Enprotec high-pressure filters, which will be used to dewater the flotation concentrate.
The aim of dewatering the ultrafines stream is to produce the highest possible quality cake with a moisture content of 20% and to recover as much water as possible.
Therefore, the mine’s ultrafines can now be recovered and exported, instead of being disposed of as waste.
