VANCOUVER (miningweekly.com) – Exploration junior Northern Superior Resources has initiated engagement protocols under its early exploration benefits agreement with the Neskantaga First Nation in parallel with its plans to restart exploration activities on its 100%-owned Ti-pi-haa-kaa-ning (TPK) project, in north-western Ontario.

Northern Superior plans to initiate a new exploration programme on the TPK property during the current quarter, focusing an exploration programme over the northwest portion of the property.

This is the area where Northern Superior discovered and defined the 3.5-km-wide Kelly Lake gold grain-in-till dispersal corridor and associated boulders (which assayed as high as 727 g/t gold; 111 g/t silver and 4.05% copper), leading to the discovery of a mineralised greenstone belt.

The purpose of the prospecting programme is to define specific mineral targets associated with this belt through prospecting, till and boulder sampling.

The programme will also comprise a structural study of the south-east portion of the property, to strengthen the core drill targets previously established from the distribution and concentration of gold grains associated with the unique 6 km wide TPK gold grain-in-till apron. Structural information will be gleaned through re-logging of drill core associated with previous core drill programmes; completing tele-viewer studies on selected core drill holes; re-analysis of the company’s geophysical data (both airborne magnetic data and ground induced polarisation data); and re-visiting any relevant outcrop.

Further, Northern Superior will complete upgrades on the company’s Rowlandson Lake exploration camp in preparation of core hole drilling on the property, expected to start during the first half of 2018.

The structural studies and camp upgrade maintenance are critical activities required to support a core-hole drilling programme within the southeast part of the property that Northern Superior intends to initiate during the winter of 2018, the company advised.

Meanwhile, Northern Superior announced on Tuesday that it has appointed exploration veteran Dan Meldrum as its new VP for exploration. Northern Superior said his skills will be invaluable as it ramps up its two main exploration programmes at Croteau Est and TPK.
