Mineral exploration and resource development consultancy RMSI will launch a new mining lease management system at the 2014 Investing in African Mining Indaba, RMSI agriculture and natural resources head Dr Siva Subramanian tells Mining Weekly.

The system is an enterprise software solution for mining companies that will effectively manage mineral rights and contracts for various mining licences. It will also provide an overview of mining licences and their current status for all stakeholders in a company.

“The solution will improve mine planning and control and companies’ ability to make effective decisions in a secure environment,” states Subramanian.

RMSI will be located at booth 4 102 at the Mining Indaba, which will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from February 3 to 6.

Subramanian notes that RMSI has been a regular attendee at the Mining Indaba since 2008, was an official sponsor of the Mining Indaba in 2011 and 2012, and is an official sponsor again this year.

Indaba Objectives

Subramanian emphasises that the Mining Indaba is one of the largest mining events in Africa that attracts investors, exploration companies and service providers. “The event is growing exponentially each year, providing a great platform for its participants.”

He highlights Africa as a key geography for RMSI, as the company has a continuously expanding project footprint in 15 African countries, including Sudan and Mozambique.

“It is important for us to be part of the Mining Indaba and to showcase our capabilities in the mineral exploration domain. RMSI has been a regular visitor to the event for many years and it has helped us network with our existing clients and partners, as well as prospective clients,” Subramanian says, adding that the indaba also offers the company valuable opportunities to engage in discussions with industry thought leaders on current and future trends in the mining industry.

“Overall, the indaba helps us generate new business across Africa and understand current exploration trends. It also enables us to fulfil several key objectives each year and offers us valuable industry insight, assisting us in undertaking market analysis, which, in turn, helps us devise our strategy for the year ahead,” he states.

Subramanian further explains that the RMSI has twin objectives for the indaba, the first of which is to reinforce its brand and commitment to provide innovative technology-driven solutions for the mining industry. The second objective is to create as many new business contacts and clients as possible.

“We are looking forward to a very exhausting and busy Mining Indaba, with a large line-up of meetings set to take place at our booth and during the networking sessions. We also plan to reconnect with our existing clients and partners in Africa and begin discussions with relevant stakeholders about their current and future projects,” he states.

African Endeavours

Subramanian tells Mining Weekly that RMSI was involved in identifying gold prospect zones in the town of al-Wilayah ash-Shamaliyah, in Sudan’s Northern state.

He explains that the company identified various alteration zones through remote-sensing-based spectral anomaly mapping within a block of 1 350 km2.

Subramanian says the client benefited from RMSI’s categorising the mineral-rich zones into high-, moderate- and low- probability areas.

“The identified anomalous zones were validated through field-based geological mapping. Further, extensive stream sediment sampling and analysis were carried out to prioritise gold exploration targets. The categorising of the mineral zones helped the client prioritise exploration areas, resulting in significant time and cost savings,” he concludes.
