The Bauxite Hills mine at Skardon River, in Queensland, has achieved a record production milestone of four-million tonnes, ASX-listed Metro Mining said on Thursday.

The record production stands the miner in good stead to achieve its 2023 sales target of 4.5-million to 5-million tonnes, said CEO and MD Simon Wensley.

“The rates currently being achieved provide high confidence that the seven-million-tonne-a-year production rate will be achieved in 2024,” he said in a statement.

In another milestone, Metro earlier this week held the official naming ceremony for its offshore floating terminal, in Shenzen, China. The vessel’s name, Ikamba, means saltwater crocodile in the language of the Ankamuthi, who are the traditional owners of the land on which the Bauxite Hills mine operates.
