JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Brazil-focused fertiliser producer MBAC Fertilizer on Wednesday reported that it had reached a new daily record production of 1 700 t of single super phosphate (SSP) fertiliser at its Itafós operation.

This also exceeded the expected daily production amount that the operation had been designed for.

“Our production ramp-up at Itafós is clearly advancing in the right, positive direction. Out progress since we resumed continuous operations in early September gives us confidence that we should reach commercial production in the coming weeks,” MBAC president and CEO Cristiano Melcher commented.

MBAC was targeting a commercial production rate equivalent to 25 000 t a month of SSP.

The company highlighted that Itafós had produced 9 165 t of SSP and 6 488 t of sulphuric acid in the first half of September. This excluded four days of lost production as a result of the restocking of raw materials and spare parts.
