London- and Johannesburg-listed Gemfields produced 17.4-million carats of emeralds in the six months ended June 30, including 85 000 ct of premium emeralds, from the Kagem emerald mine, in Zambia.

The company also produced 772 000 ct from the Montepuez ruby mine, in Mozambique, including 35 760 ct of premium rubies.

This compares with the production of 18.9-million carats of emerald from the Kagem mine, and 1.6-million carats of ruby from the Montepuez mine, in the six months ended June 30, 2022.

Revenue generated from emerald auctions in the year-to-date stands at just under $65-million, while ruby auction revenue generated in the year-to-date stands at $80.4-million.

Gemfields’ interim results will be published in September.
