North Queensland copper and gold producer R3D Resources has suspended copper sulphate pentahydrate production, as the Tartana plant and process ponds have been prepared for the impact of Cyclone Jasper.

Potential high rainfall is also likely to flood the Walsh river, restricting access to the mine, the company said on Tuesday.

“It is disappointing that quarterly production will be lower than expected because of our precautionary measures, which included suspending production and preparing the site for the impact of Cyclone Jasper.

“Earlier we had experienced some delays in acid deliveries. Nevertheless, the copper for copper sulphate pentahydrate production remains in our ponds and is available for production when the cyclone passes,” said R3D MD Stephen Bartrop.
