WDC to appoint executive director to head the organisation
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Industry body, the World Diamond Council (WDC), has started an international recruitment drive for an executive director to head the organisation.
The successful candidate would report to the WDC president and executive committee and would take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the organisation, including managing the budget and membership drives; providing strategic direction; liaising with governments, stakeholders and other organisations; and representing the WDC in the Kimberley Process and its committees.
This would be the first time that the WDC would be headed by a salaried administrator.
“The appointment of an executive director will be a key step in our process to reform the WDC and to equip it to meet the challenges of the future.
“It is a position that encompasses real challenge, and also one in which an individual can bring about positive change, both in the industry and in the lives of our stakeholders,” commented WDC president Edward Asscher.
The industry body has invited applications from individuals with a minimum of 10 to 15 years' experience in an administrative capacity, of which at least five years had to be in a senior management position.
Geographical location and familiarity with the luxury goods, diamonds or gemstone industries were not required.
However, general experience with extractives, commodities, manufacturing, speciality goods, retail or product supply chains would be an advantage, as would knowledge about corporate and social responsibility, voluntary commitments and the implementation of intergovernmental agreements, and also the Kimberley Process.
Applications could be submitted until August 31.
