The countdown has begun to the much anticipated 10th edition of Mozambique’s largest and longest running mining and energy industry event, the 2024 Mozambique Mining and Energy Conference (MMEC) taking place from 17 to 18 April 2024 at the prestigious Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre in Maputo. Widely regarded as the premier business event for local, regional, and international stakeholders including government officials and senior representatives from the extractive and power generation industries, MMEC 2024 will focus on the theme “Partnerships for Prosperity: Unlocking Mozambique’s Resources to Advance National & Regional Economic Growth.” It is the perfect platform to engage with the government on its plans and vision for the sector, to access specific industry and project opportunities in the natural resources sector, and to cement business to business partnerships and investment deals with key decision makers.

MMEC is planned and organized by AME Mocambique in association with Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) and it is supported by the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME).

MMEC’s highly successful 9th edition in 2023 was officially inaugurated by His Excellency Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, President of the Republic of Mozambique other  international and regional stake holders such as His Excellency Eng. Mohamed Hamel, Secretary General, Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), Honourable Carlos J. Zacarias, Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy of Mozambique, Honourable Ibrahim Matola, Minister of Energy of Malawi, Honourable Monica Chang'anamuno, Minister of Mining of Malawi, Honourable Magna Mudyiwa, Deputy Minister of Energy and Power Development of Zimbabwe. The event saw over 520 delegates from more than 20 countries in attendance, consolidating its position as one of the largest national, regional, and global events uniting industry players. The 10th edition is set to scale even greater heights as a special commemorative edition recognising MMEC’s well over a decade’s contribution to the development of Mozambique and the region.

Mozambique remains on a global spotlight as a leading and growing regional energy hub and building on its vast natural gas wealth discoveries it is well on its way to becoming a major player in the global energy market. In a world in which diversifying energy supply chains is a priority, Mozambican natural gas is a much sought after source with renewed optimism in the positive progression of current and future large-scale projects including the much awaited revival of the multi-billion dollar Total LNG project and ENI’s planned second floating LNG project. Clean energy infrastructure is being developed in the country including the US4.5 billion hydroelectric mega-dam, Mphanda Nkuwa, a 1500MW power project as well as other hydro, solar and wind power projects. In addition, the exploration and expansion taking place in the mining sector due to an energy transition driven price surge for its graphite, bauxite, lithium, tantalum, and titanium among others, are all shaping the country into an even more attractive international investment destination.

MMEC 2024 will once more convene Mozambique’s national leadership at the highest levels and provide the more than 500 expected professionals a front row seat to learn more about the vision and policy commitments underway to develop the country through the effective utilization of its natural resources.

Participants at this year’s event can expect to walk away from the conference and exhibition with an expanded business network, detailed information on current and emerging local commercial opportunities and new trade and investment partnerships.
