JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The National Union of Mineworkers; the Chemical, Energy, Paper, Printing, Wood and Allied Workers Union; the South African Chemical Workers Union and Solidarity have concluded a three-year wage agreement with Sasol Mining.

The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU), however, did not sign the wage agreement and its members have gone on strike.

Employees who earn between R8 300 and R10 723 a month will receive a 7% or R700 increase, whichever is greater, effective December 1.

All parties, except AMCU, have also agreed that minimum salaries will increase from R7 300 to R8 300 a month from December 1. Minimum salaries will increase to R8 800 from July 1, 2017, and then to R9 300 from July 1, 2018.
