TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Vancouver-based Trevali Mining this week announced that it had found two new zones of high-grade polymetallic mineralisation beside the Magistral Central deposit at its Santander mine, in Peru.

The TSX-listed company’s shares on Friday closed up 6.25% a share for the week, boosted by Trevali’s announcement on Wednesday that the new zones, known as Fatima North and Fatima South, occur in the footwall of the principal Magistral Central deposit and remain open for expansion to the east and at depth.

The Fatima zone is located next to the existing underground development and is readily accessible for incorporation into the Santander mine.

Trevali had mobilised an underground drill to the site and intended to begin a 4 000 m to 5 000 m drill campaign to further explore and define the newly discovered Fatima and Rosa zones.

Highlights from the Fatima zone channel sample assays included 12.95% zinc, 0.74% lead and 2.47 oz/t silver in a 6.69 m width at CH-1311 Fatima North, 11.76% zinc, 0.62% lead, 2.84 oz/t silver in a 3.22 m width at CH-1310 Fatima North, and 7.45% zinc, 2.85% lead and 6.30 oz/t silver in a 4.47 m width at CH-1251 Fatima South.

Trevali said the successful discovery of the Rosa and Fatima zones coupled with their interpretation to represent a later phase of high-grade feeder mineralisation is indicative of a large to very large, long-lived carbonate replacement deposit system at Santander.

“These most recent discoveries of Rosa and Fatima further highlight the overall exploration potential of the Santander property and of the Magistral – Puajanca corridor in particular,” the company said.
