JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Syrah Resources has appointed Perth-based CPC Engineering to carry out the detailed engineering and design of its 81.4-million-tonne Balama graphite project, in Mozambique.

CPC would provide detailed engineering design services including for process plant and associated infrastructure, procurement support, raw water supply and tailings storage pumping systems.

The flagship project’s ore reserve had an average grade of 16.2% graphitic content, using a 9% cutoff grade, comprising 13.2-million tons of contained flake graphite.

This, Syrah said, made Balama the world’s largest reserve of flake graphite.

Located about 240 km west of the port town of Pemba in the Cabo Delgado province in northern Mozambique, the project site was accessible by a major sealed road.
