TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Operations at St Andrew Goldfields’ Holt mine and mill, located 125 km east of Timmins, in Ontario, resumed on Monday morning after a fatal underground accident halted all operations on the weekend.

Twenty-two-year-old Alexie Dallaire-Vincent was killed on Saturday after being involved in an underground rail haulage accident.

The company's VP for corporate development and technical services, Keyvan Salehi, told Mining Weekly Online that the incident occurred mid-shift, at about 13:30.

The site was released by investigators on Sunday afternoon following a joint investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police, the Ontario Ministry of Labour and the company.

Excluding the Toronto-head office, Dallaire-Vincent was one of about 28 women employed by St Andrew at its operations.

Salehi said the incident was not expected to impact full-year output.

The company expected to produce between 85 000 oz and 95 000 oz of gold from the Holt and Holloway operations this year, at mine cash costs of between $750/oz and $800/oz.

St Andrew early this month reported profit of C$3-million, or C$0.01 a share, for its first quarter ended March 31. Revenue was C$36.8-million.
