Russians signalling new Botswana diamond find – Teeling
GABORONE, Botswana (miningweekly.com) – Analysis used by Russian diamond giant Alrosa indicated that a new diamondiferous kimberlite would emerge in Botswana by Christmas, London Aim-listed company head John Teeling said on Tuesday.
Speaking at the thirteenth Botswana Resource Sector Conference here, Teeling noted that Alrosa made use of electrical impulses rather than magnetics and approached solid sampling differently.
Teeling said the approach speeded up exploration by bringing mobile mineral-analysis laboratories on to site.
Currently the world’s largest diamond company, Alrosa has been partnering Teeling’s Africa-focused Botswana Diamonds on several programmes, using the technology that helped the Russian company discover 19 diamond mines in Siberia.
“We want to find a kimberlite. They believe explicitly that they can find a diamondiferous kimberlite and their analysis indicates that they will find a diamondiferous kimberlite by Christmas,” said Teeling.
