Russia's Rusal, the world's largest aluminium producer outside China, said on Wednesday that production at its Krasnoyarsk smelter was unaffected after a fire at an electricity transformer.

Rusal produced 3.8-million metric tons of aluminium in 2022, of which the Krasnoyarsk smelter produced 1.0-million tons. It is its largest smelter by production capacity along with the Bratsk smelter.

"The team managed to eliminate the impact of the fire on production processes in record time," Rusal told Reuters, adding that the smelter was operating as normal.

The fire broke out on an area of 50 square metres at 08:57 local time and was fully extinguished at 1231, the TASS news agency reported, citing local emergency ministry officials. There were no casualties.
