TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Canadian uranium miner Cameco has restricted production at its Rabbit Lake operations, in Northern Saskatchewan, after it discovered a rock fall has occurred in a reopened inactive area of the Eagle Point mine.

As a safety precaution, 40 non-essential personnel were evacuated from the mine and activities were restricted while the condition of the affected area was assessed.

No groundwater inflow to the mine were observed in the affected area, no reports of injuries or environmental consequences.

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and Saskatchewan Mines Inspector were notified.

Cameco continued to produce uranium from the Rabbit Lake mill as normal, processing ore from stockpile. The operation was expected to hit its full-year production target of 3.9-million pounds of uranium oxide.
