Name and Location
Revuboè coal project, Tete, Mozambique.

Client
Minas do Revuboè, a joint venture between Australian junior Talbot Group Investments (58.9%), Japan’s Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSM) and Nippon Steel Trading Company (jointly 33.3%) and South Korea’s Posco (7.8%).

Project Description
Revuboè has been identified as a strategic opportunity to build a world-class coal mine, producing coking coal and thermal coal for the global market, with inferred resources of 1.4-billion tons of coal, 70% of which is metallurgical coal and 30% thermal coal.

The mine will have the potential to process up to 17-million tonnes a year.

It will be an opencut coal operation, with a standalone coal handling preparation plant processing 2 400 t/h of coal, a connecting rail line and other infrastructure, medical and educational facilities and best practice environmental and safety management.

The mine will produce coking coal and a thermal stream.

Value
Not stated.

Duration
Development of the new mine should start before the end of this year and commercial production is planned for the beginning of 2016.

Latest Developments
The Mozambique government has granted Minas do Revuboè a mining concession to mine coal at its project in Tete province.

This follows Anglo American’s decision not to proceed with the acquisition of a 58.9% interest in Revuboè, owing to certain conditions for the purchase not having been met.
