Western Areas has reported a minor delay in the release of its definitive feasibility study (DFS) for the Odysseus nickel sulphide project, in Western Australia, citing an unplanned late receipt of certain key data.

The company said that the DFS release date has been moved to the end of October, from the end of September.

“The company can conform that all technical work is complete, with the focus now on report compilation, peer and board review prior to finalisation,” the ASX-listed miner said on Friday.

The Odysseus prefeasibility study estimates that the project could deliver an average of 12 000 t/y of nickel in concentrate over an initial mine life of seven years, and will require a capital expenditure of between A$190-million and A$210-million.

Western Areas believes that Odysseus is one of a few select nickel sulphide projects that will be coming into production in a timeframe that will enable it to deliver into a growing demand for nickel.
