PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The Australian government's policy transition group (PTG) on Friday concluded its face-to-face consultations with miners on the implementation arrangements for the proposed resources taxation reforms.
The PTG's co-chairs, Resources and Energy Minister Martin Ferguson and Don Argus, said in a statement that the consultation sessions had been “very constructive”.
As part of the consultation process, the PTG also received a large number of written submissions on the technical design issues associated with the implementation of the minerals resources rent tax (MRRT) and the extended petroleum resources rent tax (PRRT).
Ferguson said on Friday that the PTG would continue its consideration of submissions and the information provided as part of the face-to-face consultation process and intends to provide a final report to the Treasurer by the end of the year.
The PTG was established to develop recommendations to the government, following the consultation process. The recommendations would be provided to the government prior to the introduction of the MRRT and PRRT to Parliament, in 2011.
