Manufacturer and distributor of centrifugal pumps SAM Engineering has partnered with local foundry group Steloy Castings for the supply of centrifugal cast high-alloy components, which account for up to 70% of its pump products.
“What was once an industry dominated primarily by the global market has now seen increased demand for the supply of locally produced pumps and valves to the petrochemicals and mining, as well as food and beverage, industries of South Africa,” says SAM Engineering MD Dave Uren.
However, through this relationship, the companies intend to target mainly the mining industry, as SAM Engineering’s pumps ensure minimal downtime, do not require stockpiling of spares and reduce power use.
Uren mentions that, owing to the growing demand for locally produced pumps, manufacturers need to improve their service by rising to the challenge of meeting the stringent requirements for world-class quality, maintaining high standards of excellence regarding the materials and components used to produce pumps, and operating with integrity
Steloy is able to provide SAM Engineering with a single source for a range of materials and first-rate operational facilities, which contributes greatly to its service philosophy of providing quick turnaround times and products that supersede industry expectations, says Uren
“Steloy’s materials add value to our products as they are manufactured using expertise and knowledge that it has accumulated over time.
The company’s commitment to the production of quality, home-grown products also ensures that global expertise in pump manufacturing is made possible on a local level to the benefit of a growing industry and the South African economy as a whole,” concludes Uren.
