PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Junior iron-ore producer NSL Consolidated has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government of Andhra Pradesh, in India, to support the iron-ore growth strategy within the state.

The MoU covered the mining, beneficiation and pelletisation of low-grade iron-ores in the state, and would position NSL to produce in excess of eight-million tonnes a year of iron-ore in the newly formed state.

In addition, the MoU also included the construction and operation of a centralised pellet plant, reinforcing NSL’s strategy of value addition.

NSL told shareholders on Thursday that the state government would provide assistance to the company, including prompt land acquisition, adequate infrastructure development, and attractive incentives.

The state government would also support the NSL’s participation in significant projects in Andhra Pradesh, wherever feasible, including providing advisory services, establishing manufacturing facilities, research and development and implementation support.

One of the key enablers of the execution of the MoU was the state government committing to the development of the Orvakallu mega industrial hub, which was some 30 km from NSL’s existing operations. The hub would include access to water, power, rail and road, and the site was also proposed for one of four greenfield airports.
